OILY HAIR OR DRY HAIR? A FEW INTERESTING FACTS

Oily hair

oily hair or dry hairActually, “greasy hair” is not the right term for oily hair. The hair itself is not oily but the scalp is oily and that makes hair become oily more quickly. Oily hair, if we want to continue to use that term, has to do with excessive secretion of sebum from the scalp. For some reason, the sebaceous glands are more active than usual and produce more sebum than usual.

What can you do with oily hair?

Use a shampoo that is suitable for your type of hair and scalp. The stylist or pharmacist can advise you on this. If you are using the right shampoo, hair you can―if you want―even wash every day. It will always look clean and neat.

If you want to do something more, please inquire about hair products that contain essential oils with a calming effect. You can also find professional salon treatments that are specifically normalize sebum production.

Dry hair

Dry hair indicates a lack of moisture and protein. This can be hereditary. It is also true that our hair becomes drier as we age. Furthermore, hair naturally becomes drier due to chemical treatments (dyeing or perming) or the way you style your hair (hot dryer). Other external factors such as sun, sea salt and air conditioning also play a role.

Dry hair can benefit from moisturizing proteins. Your hairdresser can give you an intensive salon treatment of cashmere protein to add moisture to your hair. As with oily hair, it is important that you choose a shampoo that is suitable for your hair type and contains the elements that will bring your hair back into balance. A mask of mayonnaise is a famous homemade mask that really works.  Leave the mayonnaise on for one-half hour to one full hour and then wash your hair thoroughly.

What can you do with dry hair?

It is important to realize that special hair products and salon treatments have mainly only an aesthetic effect on dry and damaged hair. This means that they need to be formulated to treat the design/structure of your hair. But once your hair is damaged by chemical treatments or prolonged and unprotected exposure to the sun, then the damage cannot be reversed. Products based on proteins, vitamins and minerals can only improve the appearance of your hair, to “reconstruct” it, as it were. That is why it’s so important to always respect your hair and protect it well.

How important is your diet for the condition of your hair to become dry hair or oily hair?

A low fat, strict diet may have a negative impact on the condition of your hair. Take dry hair, for example. Dry hair needs to be fed sufficient omega-3 oils. Similarly, our bodies and therefore our hair benefit from a proper diet with the right proportions of carbohydrates, proteins and fats.  A well-functioning digestive system is also important for the condition of hair and skin. So dandruff could be the result of poor digestion (dyspepsia).
