Hair should be cared for just like your skin. Yet we sometimes underestimate our hair needs. Follow the advices given  here. Don’t give your hair short shrift.

do not wash too often and use high quality products

Some hairdressers advise that it’s better to not wash your hair every day. Two or three times a week should be sufficient. Other hairdressers believe that you can safely wash your hair every day, but they emphasize that you should always use high quality hair products. The shampoo does not have to be foamy. Manufacturers have to convince consumers that the product cleans well, but in reality it’s not the foam that cleans, but the main ingredients in the shampoo.

Furthermore, it is very important that you dilute your shampoo with water. Add one tablespoon of shampoo to a half glass of water so you’re not applying concentrated shampoo to your hair. You can use this just before you wash the glass― clean hair, clean glass.

Grandma’s recipe for shiny hair

What can you do if your hair gets dirty quickly (i.e., due to smog) and you do not want to wash it every day? A hairdresser reminded us once of the following “recipe” to try. Not only will your hair be less dirty, but it will also have a nice shine:

  • Dilute the shampoo (see above) with water and add the juice of ½ lemon to it. Mix together well.
  • Wash your hair with the mixture of shampoo, water and lemon, and rinse thoroughly. Treat it if you wish with a conditioner.
  • Immediately after washing, apply one glass of vinegar to your hair. Make sure you cover the hair roots. Let the vinegar sit about two minutes.
  • Rinse your hair with cold water.

You will see that after this treatment your hair will be less dirty and have a beautiful shiny and healthy appearance!

Dry or colored hair

If you have dry or colored hair, try an olive oil mask. Massage the oil in well and cover your hair with plastic kitchen wrap. If you are very fair, you should replace the olive oil with almond oil. Olive oil can sometimes leave a green cast to your hair.

For the best care, it is also important for you to analyze your hair well. If you have problems doing that you can always turn to your stylist for help. Conditioner is generally good for any type of hair.

Keep in mind that conditioners and other care products with keratin can make it heavier. Keratin is therefore less suitable for fine hair. The same is true for masks. If you have heavy and thick hair, you can use a mask a few times a week. If you have fine hair, then once a week is more than adequate.

Frizzy hair

If after washing hair looks fluffy and frizzy, clean it gently while wet by “kneading” it with wet hands. Then apply mousse or wax. Wax makes the hair soft and shiny, mousse is “stiff” and is more suitable for elaborate hair styles.

Be sensible with your hairdryer, too. Make sure it does not touch the hair, but keep the heat source at a distance of about 10 inches from your head. Select a medium speed instead of the maximum speed. This may take a little longer to dry your hair, but less heat does less damage, and you like it best when it’s healthy and shiny!
